Andra Hoffman was elected to the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) Board of Trustees in March of 2015 and was elected President of the Board on July 10, 2019. The Los Angeles Community College District is among the largest Districts in the Country, representing over 250,000 students, nine community colleges, and serving students from 40 cities. For over twenty years, Trustee Hoffman has served students at Glendale Community College, overseeing the Career and Transfer Centers. In this job, she has helped hundreds of students successfully complete their degree and facilitated the launch of their careers with job placement services.
As a defender and advocate for women’s causes, Trustee Hoffman is a past President of the National Women’s Political Caucus of the San Fernando Valley, where she continues to mentor and support young women and girls. Her leadership of women’s causes has been recognized by her peers on the LACCD Board. Hoffman was most recently, appointed to serve as the Chair of the Sexual Harassment/Title IX Task Force. |
Dr. Sonya Christian began her three-decade career in education at Kern CCD in 1991, first as a mathematics professor and later as division chair, then Dean of Science, Engineering, Allied Health and Mathematics at Bakersfield College. In 2003, Dr. Christian joined Lane Community College in Eugene, Oregon, as associate vice president for instruction, then vice president of academic and student affairs and chief academic officer. Dr. Christian returned home to Kern CCD in 2013 after being selected as the 10th President in Bakersfield College’s prestigious history. As faculty and then President, Dr. Christian has always been deeply committed to equity, which she has demonstrated through her work in the areas of Guided Pathways and Early College.
Dr. Christian earned her bachelor of science degree from University of Kerala in Kerala, India; her master of science in applied mathematics from University of Southern California; and her doctorate from University of California, Los Angeles. |
